today's AP meeting and link to essay lesson

Hi All,
It is time to get serious about the AP exam. I took it easy this week because I know many of you were knocking yourselves out on AP social studies work.

I must say, though, I am a little confused by the lack of page views this week on the course blog. I am also confused by the number of students who haven't posted work or shown up for the AP online meetings. I understand that many of you have additional responsibilities with family, and I want to be supportive, so here is what I propose:

  • Today's 2:00 P.M. meeting is postponed until next Friday (April 17) - by then, each of you should have written on at least one prompt, and you should plan on attending that meeting ready to discuss edits
  • In response to student requests, I will continue to stay in connection online next week; I will teach every day at 1:00 P.M.
  • I will also continue to edit and advise on your writing as you share it (by emailing me that you want comments on your blog, or by sharing a Google doc)
  • I will also begin sharing focused lessons from the College Board (see below for the first one)
This is a crazy time, but I am sincere about getting you ready for the exam and I hope we can build some momentum. At the Zoom English Department meeting this morning, an administrator told all of the teachers to take a break next week. I found myself thinking: "A break? A break from what? From caring about my students? From school?" The AP exam is approaching, and I want you all to do well.  Please watch this video, post your notes on your blog (title: HOW TO WRITE A RHETORICAL ANALYSIS ESSAY), and comment to this post if you have any questions or comments. Onward!
