A couple weeks ago, someone (Elio?) asked me during class about the meaning of life. There is a case to be made that this is the most important thing anyone can ever study, and I intended to return the topic, but the niggling details of school, PSAT, curriculum, etc. are a constant distraction. In order to make space for a conversation we can wrap our heads around in a 50 minute period (or two, or...) I'd like to ask a few questions here to get the ball rolling. Please comment with your thoughts.
1. Why is this such an important question?
2. Why is it so difficult for so many to answer?
3. Do you have any initial thoughts on the topic?
Also, to the person who originally asked me this question: Please email me or find me before/during/after class. I want to make sure we provide some meaningful insight for you. Also, I'm thinking we can set this up as a Socratic seminar, and I sure could use a co-facilitator.

The meaning of life is such an important question because it's the same as finding your reason to live or your place in life. It's so difficult to answer this question because everybody has their own definition on life. I don't have a saying here, since, I don't know my place on this Earth.
ReplyDelete1.I believe that this is such an important question because if i knew what my purpose was in this life i would get started on it and be the best at whatever it is that my purpose is in this life.
ReplyDelete2.It is so difficult for many to answer because there is no real answer and no one knows how to answer this question.
3.My initial thoughts about this topic is that it is very interesting and complicated.
1) The meaning of life is such an important question because it is something everyone wonders and it is a question we will never really know the answer to.
ReplyDelete2) It is so difficult for so many of us to answer this question because we all interpret differently, we may also think of our own answers.
3) My intial thoughts on this topic is that our meaning in life is being good to the planet and doing what makes us happy. I don't the correct meaning of life, but we must learn important lessons in this one. Topics like remind me of things like the belief of reincarnation, where we come back as someone or something else but I don't know, now I am just rambling.
1. Its such an important question because everyone at some point is curious on what truly is the meaning of life. We've given everything else a meaning so people tend to think that there has to be a meaning to life.
ReplyDelete2.Its hard to answer because personally I believe everyone wants one meaning to life and only that but because not everyone agrees to one meaning to life they tend to make their own meanings.
3.I don't think anyone can actually define what the meaning of life is because everyone is different and everyone has different believes and some don't even believe in anything.
1. "What is the meaning of Life" is such an important question because this leads to different perspectives and points of views based on religion, beliefs, and experiences. It is also an important question to why keep on living and not commit suicide, or try to seek death.
ReplyDelete2. This is a difficult question to answer because everyone has a different way of thinking. If you are open- minded, you most likely take in the information and modify it to fit in your perspective. Now, if you are a closed- minded person it will be more likely for you to stay firm on one idea which comes clashing with another different idea from another closed- minded person if you are only seeking one answer. In general, this is also why most broad questions are harder to answer. In addition, everyone has different experiences and beliefs which influence their thoughts.
3. My initial thoughts about this topic is that you create your own meaning of your own life in which you may impact others.
