walking the walk

Today I asked everyone to post notes on our Socratic seminar, so here are some of mine:

  • Socrates was an educator who asked a lot of questions
  • Argument isn't a competition or a conflict; it is a search for truth
  • Love is a popular theme in art because it is mysterious
  • We're interested in love because we want someone special for ourselves
  • We suffer from dishonesty and mistrust
  • Love is understanding
  • Why is love such a human trait?  Why do we associate love with being human?
    • It's one of the first feelings we feel when we're born
    • It's closely associated with hurt
  • Sometimes people fail at love because they're in it for the wrong reasons, like not wanting to be alone, instead of wanting a genuine connection with another person
  • Loving requires vulnerability
  • Question: Can you love someone but still hurt them? (Consensus answer: Yes)
  • Do you love someone if you act against them and cheat on them?
  • Some people think that it's the sexual cheating that counts, but it's really more emotional
